Airport Cars Club has researched the liability issue. We are established as a club to avoid the liability associated with renting cars. Because no money is involved with a vehicle exchange, the insurance companies have to treat the owner as though he loaned the car to a friend or neighbor, unless only named drivers are allowed by the policy. Our research can be summed up by the following opinion:

In almost all cases, your insurance on your vehicle will provide the primary coverage for injuries and damage from an accident that occurs while a Club Member is operating your vehicle. The borrowing Club Member's own insurance will also provide secondary coverage. Your insurance agent can confirm whether your policy provides primary coverage.

Vehicle owners should insure their vehicles according to their own needs and be sure their insurance dovetails with their personal liability umbrella.
